Most people are used to seeing one provider at a time, often in short visits with limited coordination between services. Gateway was built to do things differently.

We are a primary care clinic where a team of health professionals works together with you. Physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, clinical exercise physiologist, and social workers collaborate in real time to support your health. You do not have to move between services. The team comes together for you.

Gateway is also a teaching clinic. Learners from different health disciplines are part of the team, working under supervision and contributing to your care. This is not separate from care. It is part of what makes care here more thoughtful, more connected, and continuously improving.

Gateway is part of a broader effort to improve how primary care is delivered.

Learners from nursing, medicine, pharmacy,  kinesiology and certified exercise physiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, dietetics, and social work train here as part of their programs. They learn in real-world clinical settings as active members of the care team, working alongside experienced clinicians to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to work effectively in teams and contribute to a stronger health care system.

For patients, this means care that is attentive, collaborative, and continuously improving.

Gateway is based at the University of British Columbia and works in partnership with health system and community organizations across British Columbia.

Our goal is not only to provide excellent care within the clinic, but also to contribute to improving primary care more broadly. What we learn here helps inform how team-based care can be delivered in other settings.
